For twenty-five years, Joe Navarro, M.A., worked with the FBI, both as
an agent and supervisor in the area of counterintelligence and
counterterrorism handling complex multinational investigations. In
addition to his counterintelligence duties with the Bureau, Mr. Navarro
was the senior criminal profiler in the Tampa Division. A career long
instructor, he continues to teach advanced interviewing and nonverbal
communications for the FBI's Counterterrorism Division. Mr. Navarro was
a founding member of the National Security Division's Behavioral
Analysis Program and remains a consultant to the FBI, Department of
State, the Institute for Defense Analysis, a Washington, D.C. based
think tank, and other members of the Intelligence Community. His
expertise has been recognized in the application and interpretation of
nonverbal behavior for interviewing and behavioral assessment. Mr.
Navarro has taught intelligence analysis, interviewing and behavioral
profiling to both the law enforcement and intelligence communities and
has lectured throughout the United States, South America and Europe.
Interestingly, Mr. Navarro has also taught the skills in this program
to such diverse groups as major corporations and insurance companies as
well as the World Poker Tour. His affiliation with the WPT resulted in
his newest book, "Read 'Em and Reap" which includes a forword from WPT
champion Phil Hellmuth. Navarro is coauthor of, "Advanced Interviewing
Techniques" with John Schafer and wrote the recently released book,
"Hunting Terrorists: A Look at the Psychopathology of Terror." He is a
fellow at the Institute for Intergovernmental research and an adjunct
faculty at the University of Tampa and Saint Leo's University.
