| Kris Mohandie, Ph.D. Dr. Kris Mohandie is a police and forensic psychologist with over nineteen years of experience in the assessment and management of violent behavior. Dr. Mohandie’s book, School Violence Threat Management: A Practical Guide for Educators, Law Enforcement, and Mental Health Professionals was released November 2000 and is now in its second printing. Dr. Mohandie was one of the principal architects’ of the L.A. Unified School District’s school violence prevention plan. He has worked in field responses and case investigations for local, state, and federal law enforcement organizations including LAPD’s Threat Management Unit and SWAT/Crisis Negotiation Team. He responded on-scene to the O.J. Simpson barricade and the North Hollywood Bank Robbery Shootout. Dr. Mohandie assisted the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s prosecution of the stalker of Steven Spielberg. He regularly consults on extreme violence, stalking, and threat cases in the private and public sector. He has conducted research on stalking and suicide by cop and has conducted numerous interviews with school and workplace shooters and other violent perpetrators. His work has been featured in the LA Times, U.S. Today, E!, and in the news programs of CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, Fox, USA Network, as well as the Discovery Channel. |

School and Campus Threat Management
There is a new sense of urgency to keep our children and schools safe. The recent Virginia Tech and Illinois tragedies remind us that these issues can occur in universities as they have in middle and high schools. The recent deaths of students in Colorado and Pennsylvania at the hands of outside offenders highlights that students are not the only threat sources and the need exists to protect our schools from outsiders with unique and dangerous agendas. The tragic deaths of hundreds of people, many of whom were children, in a school based terrorism incident in Russia further underscores this issue. There are new dimensions of threat for school personnel, mental health, legal, and school police and security professionals to consider.
This presentation will provide attendees with an overview of cutting edge information about school based threat assessment, violence prevention and intervention strategies. It will assist in understanding the unique assessment, management, criminal, and civil legal issues associated with these cases and how to reduce one’s liability in the process. The material presented will be based on over 17 years of topic-specific experience, pre/post conviction interviews and reviews of school violence perpetrators, victims, and incidents. Participants will gain practical ideas that may be applied to their own educational setting.
Workplace Violence Threat Management in the 21st Century
Today’s challenging workplace requires a special effort to ensure each employee’s safety. Given what is known, it is no longer acceptable to presume violence will not occur in one’s company or organization. This one day presentation will provide participants with both a basic and advanced understanding of workplace violence threat management in the 21st Century. Workplace violence offenders are constantly evolving, requiring a threat assessment effort that is also on the cutting edge. Essential elements of threat assessment and threat assessment teams must adapt as necessary to deal with these changes. Victims and potential victims also need to be managed and educated. This presentation will provide attendees with a brief review of the core essentials of threat assessment and management in the workplace, before moving to more advanced and comprehensive concepts. The presentation will identify and stimulate the real world creativity required to better manage the challenging individuals who seek to disrupt and devastate our places of work.
