| Dr. Garbarino’s work in the service of children spans four decades. He
holds the Maude C. Clarke Chair in Humanistic Psychology and is
Director of the Center for the Human Rights of Children at Loyola
University Chicago. He has consulted or advised groups from the
National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, NIMH, AMA and the National
Black Child Development Institute to the U.S. Advisory Board on Child
abuse and Neglect and the FBI. A prolific author, he has nineteen books
in print, including, See Jane Hit: Why Girls Are Growing More Violent
and What We Can Do About It, And Words Can Hurt Forever: How to Protect
Adolescents from Bullying, Harassment and Emotional Violence and Lost
Boys: Why Our Sons Turn Violent and How We Can Save Them. Dr. Garbarino
serves as a scientific expert witness in criminal and civil cases on
issues involving violence and children. He has been awarded numerous
awards by such groups as the National Academy of Education, APA, the
National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect and the American Academy
of Pediatrics Section on Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics.
