Managing Bullying, Violent Females, Bias and Gang Behavior in Schools and Community Settings

Maintaining a safe school and community environment means managing bullying, gangs and violence. Problems associated with bullying, gangs, emerging female violence and discrimination and bias are well documented in their adverse affects on a positive learning environment. Many successful programs have been implemented nationwide to address these issues, showing hopeful results.

Participants will be presented with overview of how these behaviors impact the social environment of the school, attendance and academic performance of students. Since these issues follow students out into the community, noted community based responses will be addressed. State of the art, research-based prevention and intervention approaches will be presented in a “nuts and bolts” format. Attendees will be able to follow and implement five planning steps to improve school climate, attendance and academic achievement. Successful community interventions will also be discussed. School site teams will be able to personalize the information directly to their school site, while those working with youth in a non-school environment will come away with fresh ideas for managing these issues.
